Kate ran a cake business for 11 years before founding the Cake Business Club, where she coaches cake business owners. She combines her industry experience with a business studies degree and a background in teaching. Coming into ON IT, she wanted to keep growing without the burnout of the year before.
“I want my work to fit into my life, not my work to be my life.”
Evolve
Kate ran the Cake Business Club alongside her cake business for its first year. She never planned to go full time, but as she saw the club’s potential, her drive to help others took over. She closed the cake business, and she’s now two years into running the Cake Business Club full time.
Rebalance
The year before, Kate grew her membership and one-to-one clients a lot, but it came at a cost. She was in a constant selling cycle of masterclasses, challenges and ads, and she felt burnt out. In her January ON IT session, she wrote down a different vision: keep growing, but find ways of working that fit her life.
Grow
Ten months on, Kate has found that balance. She takes time off when she wants it and keeps Fridays free of client calls. She also reshaped her membership with input from her members. She’s stepped back from constant selling and is still growing, now with the right people rather than ones joining out of FOMO.
“I’ve still grown, and found my feet a bit more. And that feels really good.”
The Role ON IT played
Kate spends her working days helping other business owners with their businesses. ON IT gives her protected time for her own. The monthly session at the start of the month helps her focus on the weeks ahead.
